I’m a Deputy Fire Chief, happily married for 30 years, and have two grown son’s who fit the description found in Psalm 127:4,5, they are “arrows in my quiver.”
More than ten years ago, I began studying leadership, initially out of desperation. I had recently promoted and was tasked with leading firefighters into burning buildings while everyone else is running out! Later I continued to study, simply out of a desire to hear the words from the Lord, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…” (Mathhew 25:21), and haven’t stopped since.
I attend church at Applegate Christian Fellowship . I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by many great leaders in my church, my fire department, and my family. I wrote the book Traveler and the Chaplain based on what I’ve learned from those leaders and what I’ve learned from my own self study over the last ten years. The original goal was to leave this wisdom behind for my two sons. After I finished the manuscript I decided to publish. After I published, my oldest, techno whizz that he is, encouraged me to start a blog — I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying it.
What I’m about is helping Christians to live well and to lead well. Some share wisdom from a position of, “I am spectacular, come alongside and learn how I do things.” Others share wisdom from the position of, “I also struggle in the battle to live well and have sought wisdom — I’d like to share some of that wisdom with you.” My position? “Nobody needs to learn this wisdom and these principles more than I do. In fact, I would say that any success that I’ve experienced has come as a result of the principles discussed in the book Traveler and the Chaplain and in this blog, in spite of who I am, not because of who I am.”
Traveler and the Chaplain is an entertaining and easy to read story written in the tradition of the parables of Jesus. It can be read in one sitting and is ideal for Christians in any stage of life, from fathers, mothers, teachers, and coaches, to pastors, CEO’s and school principles.

I pray that the Lord uses this blog and Traveler and the Chaplain to influence your life and the lives of those around you for Christ.

Thanks Kurt for hitting my blog. Your blog looks great with lots of good stuff! Looks like we have a lot in common and I’m glad to see you are about the work of equipping Christian leaders in the firefighting community. I pray your work is fruitful and Christ is glorified as you go about the business of saving lives in the community and in the firehouse.
